Everyone loves to watch Hummingbirds, the world’s tiniest of birds. Swift, yet agile and graceful. Hummingbirds are one of the more beautiful birds that you will see in nature. There are more than 300 species of hummingbirds in the Western Hemisphere and over 18 different species of Hummingbirds in America. Thus, there is always the chance that you’ll see more than one type hovering around your flowers.
Besides getting nectar from flowers, hummingbirds like to eat insects and will also drink nectar syrup from hummingbird feeders. Hummingbirds typically consume more than their own body weight in food each day, so having hummingbird feeders placed at different spots in your garden can help them in their constant quest for food.
There are a large variety of Humming bird feeders available. You can have strictly functional feeders which are only for the purpose of feeding Hummingbirds or you can create a stunning landscape with decorative Humming bird feeders of various designs
A hummingbird feeder from HummZinger offers style and functionality combined into one of their feeders. This feeder is a disc shape and has a built-in ant moat. It is constructed from unbreakable polycarbonate and is easy to clean.
It has 4 feed ports and a 12 oz. capacity. There is also a circular perimeter perche that allows the hummingbirds to sit while they drink nectar
Perky Pet Humming bird feeders have a generous selection of feeders to choose from. This one in particular has a very large, 48-ounce volume. It is a plastic feeder in a unique strawberry design. The green base is drip resistant, with three feeding ports in the shape of white flowers.
The feeder is easy to fill and clean. The bright red color will definitely help to attract the birds since hummingbirds love the color red. Although this feeder doesn’t have any perches for the birds, it does come with a one-year warranty
One of the flowers that attracts hummingbirds is the Trumpet vine flower. One very unusual feeder design comes in the shape of a Ferris Wheel, although it doesn't actually turn. The feeding ports are made of glass and are in the shape of Trumpet vine flowers. Each feeding station has it's own perch which is next to the metal baskets that the individual flowers are set in.
Another unique design option is the Ruby Fountain Hummingbird Feeder. It is a quality antique style bottle with copper stopper and a copper wire that is shaped like a stem with brass leaves that hang realistically from the stem. It is handmade in the beautiful serenity of the Great Smoky mountains. The leaves and flowers have a fired, translucent finishes to give them beauty and long durability. The feeding ports are elongated red feeder tubes that resemble flowers.
And yet, with all this variety, you can still get a basic and functional Hummingbird Feeder. This one has a base with eight holes to feed a crowd of birds. It is a little deferent from most of the others because it offers a place for the birds to perch while they drink nectar. The heavy glass bottle is stable in the wind and does not drip.
As you can see, hummingbird feeders come in a variety of styles, shapes, sizes and colors. From functional to fancy. Usually the body of most Hummingbird feeders will be red, or at least have some red in them. Red is an invitation to all hummingbirds to dine in your garden.
Whatever design of feeder you decide to go with, just having the hummers in your garden will be an exciting addition.
